Numb­ing chicken wings @ Spice Bar

It’s all in the name. Spice Bar at Mooloolaba serves up a fu­sion of mod­ern Asian cui­sine with ever-evolv­ing lo­cal pro­duce sea­soned with fresh herbs and, you guessed it, spices. But if we had to pick one dish for the spici­est of spice fans, you can’t beat their numb­ing chicken wings. Key word: numb­ing. Th­ese twice-cooked wings are served un­der a fiery blan­ket of whole fried chill­ies dressed in house-made Sichuan chilli oil for the ul­ti­mate numb­ingly good flavour ex­plo­sion.

In­ferno pizza @ Lit­tle Italy

You’ll need the fire ex­tin­guisher (prefer­ably Bianco or Rosso flavoured) to fin­ish this meal. Lit­tle Italy at Bud­dina has packed a big punch on the spice-scale with their In­ferno pizza. Each slice starts with a tabasco and tomato sauce base, then it’s topped with cap­sicum, red onion, spicy beef, jalapenos and spicy Ital­ian sausage. Bon ap­petite.

Bahn mi hot­dog @ The Good Bar

What’s hot­ter than a hot­dog? An Asian-in­spired hot dog, ob­vi­ously. Stay­ing true to Asian cui­sine, the Amer­i­can sta­ple has a spicy twist at The Good Bar at Mooloolaba. Their Bahn mi hot­dog stacks on the heat with fresh red chilli, slow cooked pork belly, cu­cum­ber, car­rot, co­rian­der and sriracha sauce. Why not add a side of chilli fries for an ex­tra dose of the hot stuff ?

Tor­resmo @ Machu Pic­chu Restau­rant and Bar

From sexy salsa rhythms to spicy cui­sine, Machu Pic­chu Restau­rant and Bar in Ma­roochy­dore knows how to turn up the heat. Start the fire with some tor­resmo. This Brazil­ian street dish of twice-fried pork belly with peri peri salt and hot chilli sauce is the per­fect start to a hot night out.

Chile Chica mar­garita @ La Can­teena

Con­sider your­self a hard­core chilli en­thu­si­ast? Take your love af­fair with the hot stuff to a whole new level with a Chile Chica mar­garita at La Can­teena at Ma­roochy­dore. This spicy lit­tle fire­ball of liq­uid is the per­fect com­pan­ion to spicy tacos, bur­ri­tos, na­chos or what­ever zesty Mex­i­can dish you de­sire. While it may be served icy cold, this stuff is hot enough to get the fi­esta fir­ing.

Chicken burger @ Ricks Garage

The chicken burger at Ricks Garage at Palm­woods comes with two op­tions – mild or “frickin hot’’. Ob­vi­ously, we’re opt­ing for the lat­ter op­tion. But for our sweet chilli type spice fans (aka the rook­ies) op­tion one al­lows you to en­joy the same meal as your spice-lov­ing friend with­out the fiery zing. Just don’t get them mixed up!

Fried rice with chilli and basil @ Hot Chilli Bean Thai Cafe

Hot Chilli Bean Thai Cafe at Coolum praises the health ben­e­fits of Thai­land’s beloved herbs and spices and they aren’t afraid to use them. Their fried rice with chilli and basil in­cludes all the good stuff from a tra­di­tional Thai-style fried rice, only hot­ter. Egg, onion, peas, shal­lots, basil leaves and freshly chopped chilli are tossed with your choice of meat for a fried rice with ex­tra zing.
