NEW GADGET

Life & Style Weekend - - STUFF - WITH GEOFF EGAN

FITBIT is one of the few companies that could take on Apple’s dominance in the smartwatch market. The Ionic is Fitbit’s attempt to move beyond making activity tracker. But activity tracking is still what the Ionic does best. Like all Fitbits it measures steps, distance, heart rate and encourages you to move when you’ve been still for too long. It is what Fitbit has done for years and the Ionic is one of the company’s best yet. But as a smartwatch the Ionic is a few steps behind the Apple Watch and even some Android watches. It can keep track of messages and emails, tell you the weather and play music through MP3s – but there just aren’t the apps to do much more. Price $449.95
