Royal Caribbean Cruises is rolling out technology throughout its 48-ship fleet over the next two years that promises guests faster boarding and easy sign-ups for shore excursions. A smartphone app will be available to guests that allows them to order drinks, sign up to shore excursions and make dinner reservations without leaving their seat by the pool. Other technology includes facial recognition software that will allow guests to skip check-in lines. Virtual reality experiences will also be offered that transform ship spaces into virtual environments and interactive games. Stateroom ceilings might be replaced by starry skies, or restaurant walls might transform into the sights of an outdoor cafe.
