Australia’s Margaret Court executes a backhand shot during a match against Chris Evert at the US Open Tennis Championship in 1973. Court, who lost to Evonne Goolagong Cawley in the 1971 Wimbledon final, still won a record 62 Grand Slam tournament titles over the course of her tennis career. The Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne is named after her. Court made headlines earlier this year because of her stance on same-sex marriage, when she said she would stop using Qantas “where possible” because of the airline’s support of same-sex marriage.
