HAD ME AT HELLO
Say ‘hello’ (pardon the pun) to the Sunshine Coast’s newest furniture, homewares and lifestyle store located in Maroochydore’s super trendy industrial precinct – Hello Trader. Why have I not heard of this gorgeous, Boho meets The Bahamas-inspired store I hear you ask? Because Hello Trader only opened yesterday and it’s every bit as glorious as it sounds. The brains behind the new concept store, Chelsea Bennie is one smart lady as not only has she opened the doors just before Christmas, they have beautiful gift options for any special occasion. I caught up with Chelsea about her new store.
1) Tell us a bit about you and your background?
I’m just an ordinary girl who is a lover of all things beautiful. I started out styling events in the wedding industry over four years ago. However, my passion for designing and styling furniture for my event hire company has been the main influence.
2) What inspired you to launch Hello Trader?
After years of sourcing and designing furniture in event hire, I soon realised this part of my role was my biggest passion. I envisaged opening a store and had clear vision of how the store would look aesthetically. By creating mood boards of products on my hitlist and the style I wanted to portray, I brought my vision to life.
3) Tell us about your business?
Hello Trader is a concept store trading in furniture, homewares and lifestyle out of a warehouse in the Maroochydore industrial estate. We have worked closely with artisans around the world, sourcing and curating our own furniture and homewares collection.
4) Your favourite part of the job?
Working with the producers directly and knowing that our pieces are ethically handmade by artisans. I can’t explain the feeling when pieces arrive after months of designing, sourcing and communicating with the manufacturers. It’s made me feel so connected with our brand!
5) What's trending at the moment?
Rattan – it’s all about the return of the 1970s and in particular hand-crafted, one-off pieces. Consumers are loving the exclusivity of their investment pieces! Style rattan and cane with earthy tones and textures to bring into 2017.
