Like rain­drops on roses and whiskers on kit­tens, these are a few of my favourite things. When I shot this dish with pho­tog­ra­pher Miranda Porter, I was con­cerned that it was an un­re­fined as­sem­bly of crunchy, bit­ter­sweet choco­late naugh­ti­ness. Yet, when we tasted it – perks of the job – it was a les­son that com­bin­ing crunchy, but­tery pastry with a silky choco­late cream isn’t half bad. I imag­ine once the von Trapps made it to Switzer­land they would have en­joyed this as much as their beloved crisp ap­ple strudel.
