KNITFEST – YARN & FI­BRE ARTS FES­TI­VAL

When: June 30 – July 1

Where: Var­i­ous lo­ca­tions in Maleny

Maleny ex­plodes in a sea of colour as the Knitfest Yarn and Fi­bre Arts fes­ti­val takes over the town. Yarn­bomb­ing is the show­case of this event where the town’s streetscap­e is wrapped in art, as the Knitfest team bomb trees, build­ings and inan­i­mate ob­jects. The fes­ti­val hosts 30 work­shops, guest speak­ers, mu­sic, trade stalls, demon­stra­tions and com­pe­ti­tions. Take the free Knitfest Bus as it weaves around the fes­ti­val precinct and past the colour­fully dec­o­rated trees to­wards the Show­grounds. HIN­TER­LAND CRAFT BEER FES­TI­VAL

When: Satur­day, June 30

Time: Noon to 8pm

Where: Im­pe­rial Ho­tel, Eu­mundi

The in­au­gu­ral Hin­ter­land Craft Beer Fes­ti­val fea­tures cel­e­brated Sunshine Coast brew­eries in­clud­ing Land & Sea Brew­ery, Brouhaha Brew­ery, Eu­mundi Brew­ery and Sunshine Brew­ery. SUN­CORP SU­PER NET­BALL

The lo­cal derby is back! This match-up will have the in­ten­sity of a grand fi­nal as both Sunshine Coast and arch-ri­val Queens­land des­per­ately try to claim brag­ging rights as the queens of the state.

MARY VAL­LEY ART FES­TI­VAL

When: July 6-8

Time: 1pm

Where: Im­bil Pub­lic Hall, Im­bil

The Mary Val­ley Art Fes­ti­val is held on the first week­end each July in Im­bil, Mary Val­ley Coun­try, and show­cases en­tries from tal­ented artists through­out south­east Queens­land in a com­pe­ti­tion of­fer­ing more than $7000 in prize money. Each year the art­work on dis­play is tes­ta­ment to the creative abil­i­ties of in­di­vid­u­als re­sid­ing in their com­mu­ni­ties, while vis­i­tors at­tend­ing the fes­ti­val share the priv­i­lege of be­ing able to view or buy the re­sults of many hours of in­tense ef­fort and pas­sion.

ONE-ACT PLAY FES­TI­VAL

When: Starts Thursday, July 12

Time: 7.30pm

Where: Noosa Arts Theatre, 163 Weyba Rd, Noosav­ille

Since 1978, Noosa Arts Theatre has been run­ning the Na­tional One-act Play­writ­ing Com­pe­ti­tion. With an $8000 cash prize pool, in­clud­ing The Eleanor Nimmo Prize of $5000 for best play, it at­tracts en­tries from play­wrights through­out Aus­tralia and abroad. Scripts are judged anony­mously by a pro­fes­sional panel of three in­dus­try ex­perts. The three fi­nal­ists are selected on the qual­ity of the writ­ing, not on sub­ject mat­ter; and the win­ning or­der is de­cided be­fore the plays are pre­sented in this fes­ti­val.

Please come and be a part of rais­ing funds to build Aus­tralia’s first spe­cialised eat­ing dis­or­der res­i­den­tial fa­cil­ity. En­joy a great night of food, drinks and en­ter­tain­ment by the Buddy Holly Show. You’ll also hear in­spir­ing speak­ers in­clud­ing Cur­tis Mcgrath OAM, a 2016 Rio Par­a­lympian who took up ca­noe­ing af­ter los­ing both legs fol­low­ing a blast while serv­ing in the Aus­tralian Army in Afghanista­n.
