When industry players line up to attend the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival year after year, you know our coastal region has something going for it. SCFF director Jacinta Richmond said the opportunity for emerging talent to showcase alongside established talent and to learn from that experience, along with the opportunity to meet industry players face to face, was what the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival was all about. “It’s about affordable opportunity, both marketing, sowing and relationship-building. It is up to the design talent to educate themselves and take advantage,” she said. Previous years have included international award-winning couture designers, board members of World Fashion Organization, international and national fashion agents, and editors of national and international glossy magazines. Here’s what some of them had to say about SCFF. Italian designer Nicola Finetti, who is based in Sydney and stocked in Myer nationally as well as high-end boutiques both nationally and internationally, is returning for a fourth year. Nicola only shows at the SCFF and at the Myer Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne each year. Local fashionistas are just one of two who will get a look at his new-season collection. “I will return every year. It is a great show, very professional and very beautiful location,” Nicola said. www.nicolafinetti.com Assia Benmedjoub is the editor of Ragtrader magazine and the SCFF is the only fashion event she attends in person to watch every catwalk show and to share her industry knowledge and wisdom. “I believe I will return every year to the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival. It is refreshing to see new labels and to be in such a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. There really is nowhere else like it,” Assia said. www.ragtrader.com.au Carla van Lunn is a fashion diplomat, travelling the globe to work with design talent, governments and also has a podcast. “What occurs at the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival is like nothing else on the Sunshine Coast. What director Jacinta Richmond brings the industry is incredible, with her knowledge and abilities. What is provided to design talent is such quality and such value for money. “Design talent cannot get this anywhere else and it is a wonderful opportunity for Queensland and Australia,” Carla said of the event.
