Yeah, boy! Today is the first official day of summer, and my Kiwi best mate has forbidden me from making any plans of my own. Apparently our cousins from across the ditch have their own “welcoming of summer” tradition. It’s known as Crate Day. But hey, it involves a backyard pool, a barbecue, the gathering of all my mates and some ice-cold beer. So, I’ll happily colour my southern cross stars red (for the day) and label myself “cultured”. For everyone else who is not sucked in by their fighty foreign friends, I suggest you spend the day checking out the new businesses in Caloundra. Two hip cafes opened on Bulcock St this week, as well as an innovative fitness studio. After you’ve brunched, hit up the local beaches and take in some of the Hot91 crew’s summer tips.
