It’s award season and one thing many of us love to do is watch our favourite TV and movie stars sashay down the red carpet in stunning gowns and designer suits. What will they be wearing?

Who will they be wearing?

Who is the best and worst dressed?

In my opinion, it’s the best part of the ceremony.

On the Sunshine Coast if there is one thing most women love to do, it is to gown up for gala events.

Imagine my surprise when I met Barbara Fontolan at the Sunshine Coast Women’s Expo.

On front and centre stage was the most amazing, show-stopping gown I had ever seen. It was a crowd-pleaser, making the best-dressed list right here on the Sunshine Coast!

Is it any wonder though, Barbara was born and raised in Italy not far from Milan – one of the fashion capitals of the world.

Now she lives on the Coast and has opened a new business called La Bottega Di Barbara, meaning “the Artist Studio”.

Designer, one-off gowns or party outfits made just for you.

The buyer will never be on the “who wore it better” list, as she will be the only one at a gala function in that custom-made gown.

La Bottega Di Barbara’s style is classical and clean – she designs for a women who wants to be and feel different, original and sexy.

Her current look reflects just that. It’s a look for the modern woman – sometimes romantic, always in a simple and elegant way, edgy but not vulgar.

This year, Barbara is drawing inspiration from the Sunshine Coast, with influences of the ocean, rainforest and the region’s lifestyle.

The love for clothes, colours, fabrics and lace is what inspired her to pursue a career in the fashion industry and she intends to deliver something unique.
