FASHIONISTAS ARE CELEBRATING THE ‘YEAR OF THE SNEAKER’ WITH THE TREND POPPING UP EVERYWHERE FROM ON THE CATWALK TO WORK CONFERENCES

The Chinese New Year might be celebrating the Year of the Pig but in fashion, we are celebrating the “Year of the Sneaker”.

In the recently release statistics by Pinterest, the trend that everyone seems to be pinning is the sneaker.

Stolen from a page out of the ’90s era, statement sneakers continue to make their mark on some of the hottest runway shows around the world. They are back and our once high-heeled feet couldn’t be happier. It’s not just on the catwalk of Chanel, Gucci or Balenciaga that we are seeing this trend. It is popping up from Sunday brunch to work meetings and we’re seeing it embraced by all age groups.

Now, let me be clear: when I say sneakers, I’m not talking about your basic jogger or trainer, I am talking about embellished, bedazzled and bejewelled sneakers, not the type you go for your morning jog in. Sneakers are a must-have for the style-minded and offer the ultimate in sports luxe.

Team your sneakers with an oversized tee dress and fun accessories for an easy, cool look. For the ultimate off-duty ensemble: match your skinny jeans with lace-up low tops or slip-on sneakers or evoke retro vibes with high-tops teamed with high-waisted shorts and a kitsch tee.

How do you style a white sneaker?

Pair classic white sneakers with track pants for a sporty-inspired look. Offset the femininity of a skirt suit with a pair of chunky, throwback sneakers, as spotted on Bella Hadid.

Keep your look casual with a pair of lounge pants, a simple white T-shirt, and a denim jacket paired with white lace-up sneakers. Nothing looks cooler than teaming a cuffed, blue-denim jeans with a fresh pair of white kicks.

Sneakers are a great addition to any outfit and a must-have in every wardrobe. If you choose wisely, they’ll never go out of style and offer the ultimate combination of fashion and comfort.

Still feeling unsure when it comes to styling and dressing without heels? See below for my seven sneaker-friendly outfit formulas to spark your style inspiration.

Midi dress meets sneaker style: A pair of sneakers with a midi dress can look casual cool for any occasion. Add pieces and accessories such as large sunnies and a statement bag to complete the look. Leather pants with sneakers: Wait, what? Nothing looks more chic and stylish than teaming leather pants and a winter coat with a fresh pair of sneakers. Vintage tees are still all the rage, so turn your look into casual chic with a denim skirt and lace-up converse.

Long dress and sneakers. Dress down a sleek maxi or dress up a sundress with your favourite pair of kicks.

Amp up a matching tracksuit with cool kicks for that comfortable and cool, co-ord tracksuit look. A fresh pair of white sneakers works well with this look. Double denim is still all the rage this season, so why not rock it with a pair of white sneakers.

Go all white. Elevate an all-white outfit with a pair of fresh white kicks to look and feel sophisticated and stylish.

Sneakers offer a casual, comfy alternative to more flashy footwear, and are quickly gaining a fashion following all of their own.

So keep your wardrobe up to date by investing in the ultimate in ready-for-anything footwear.
