CHANGE IS BREWING

Life & Style Weekend - - ESCAPE -

Noosa Food and Wine … and Beer … Festival? It has a ring to it, according to new festival director Sheridah Puttick, who says the revitalised program celebrates more diversity than the traditional twosome.

“The beer scene up here is growing and, for me, it’s really remarkable,” she tells me over another important beverage — coffee — at the beachfront Bistro C.

“(Noosa brewers) are producing beers that work with our climate, which is really important for any artisan product.”

Visitors can experience the ale attraction at new kid on the block Heads of Noosa Brewing Co. (85 Rene Street, Noosaville) and Land & Sea (19 Venture Drive, Noosaville).

“Heads of Noosa is doing great Japanesestyle and sunset lagers,” Sheridah says.

“Land & Sea were the first in town and they’ve very much captured the surfing culture up here.”

There are two festival tickets that beer buffs will really want to get their hands on.

“Brewer’s Delight is on the Thursday (May 16) at Heads of Noosa and you’ll be able to talk to the brewers and get taken on a tour,” Sheridah says. “Then there’s Beer, Gin and Gourmet Junk on the Friday night (May 17) with Land & Sea and local distillery Fortune.”

The Land & Sea kitchen will contribute the “gourmet junk” — gin oysters, beer-battered fish and chips, tacos, spent grain pizza and more — as guests spend three hours roaming between food and beverage stations.

Also check out the Noosa Brewery Trail, which visits Land & Sea Brewery, Eumundi Brewery and Copperhead Restaurant & Brewery. Tickets include tastings and lunch.
