Noosa Food and Wine … and Beer … Fes­ti­val? It has a ring to it, ac­cord­ing to new fes­ti­val di­rec­tor Sheri­dah Puttick, who says the re­vi­talised pro­gram cel­e­brates more di­ver­sity than the tra­di­tional two­some.

“The beer scene up here is grow­ing and, for me, it’s re­ally re­mark­able,” she tells me over an­other im­por­tant bev­er­age — cof­fee — at the beach­front Bistro C.

“(Noosa brew­ers) are pro­duc­ing beers that work with our cli­mate, which is re­ally im­por­tant for any ar­ti­san prod­uct.”

Vis­i­tors can ex­pe­ri­ence the ale at­trac­tion at new kid on the block Heads of Noosa Brew­ing Co. (85 Rene Street, Noosav­ille) and Land & Sea (19 Ven­ture Drive, Noosav­ille).

“Heads of Noosa is do­ing great Ja­pane­ses­tyle and sun­set lagers,” Sheri­dah says.

“Land & Sea were the first in town and they’ve very much cap­tured the surf­ing cul­ture up here.”

There are two fes­ti­val tickets that beer buffs will re­ally want to get their hands on.

“Brewer’s De­light is on the Thurs­day (May 16) at Heads of Noosa and you’ll be able to talk to the brew­ers and get taken on a tour,” Sheri­dah says. “Then there’s Beer, Gin and Gourmet Junk on the Fri­day night (May 17) with Land & Sea and lo­cal dis­tillery For­tune.”

The Land & Sea kitchen will con­trib­ute the “gourmet junk” — gin oys­ters, beer-bat­tered fish and chips, tacos, spent grain pizza and more — as guests spend three hours roam­ing be­tween food and bev­er­age sta­tions.
