THINGS TO SAMPLE
EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY IN THE CHARMING CITY OF BUNDABERG
Touted as Bundaberg’s biggest beer garden, Riverfeast is the place to be on Friday night. The unique venue overlooking the Burnett River offers a number of different food stalls and the region’s finest drinks are at the bar. It’s a great way to begin a weekend feasting on some of the local produce-inspired foods like the fresh prawns I devoured as I sipped on a local cider while enjoying live entertainment and good company.
THE BREWHOUSE – BARGARA BREWING COMPANY
Located in the Bundaberg CBD, this family-owned independent craft brewery and bistro is another must-visit venue. Sample their range of beers made from 100 per cent rainwater and uniquely selected ingredients. I’m no beer expert but the flavours on my tasting paddle went down well with the tasty pizzas and grazing board.
One of the most interesting experiences during the May Taste Bundaberg Festival was discovering a distilling and brewing company in Bundaberg that made gin, vodka and liqueurs.
Founder Rick Prosser is a former Bundaberg Rum master distiller who has taken his skills and experience to create award-winning distilled spirits.
He spoke with passion about what his family-owned and operated company has achieved in two years and he should be proud as the quality of the Kalki Moon products is exceptional.
THE POCKET STOREHOUSE
It’s a little pocket of heaven serving up hand-crafted bread and pastries along with coffee to get Saturday mornings started.
