CHEAP AS CHIPS DESIGNER
BEST PLACES ON THE COAST TO FIND HIGH-END FASHION FOR FRACTION OF COST
If you caught my last piece on “story of a white cotton T-shirt” then you will know today I’m sharing my top op shops on the Sunshine Coast. I have a knack for op shopping.
I literally “got it from my mumma”. It’s something we would enjoy for girl time on a Saturday morning after the markets.
Once considered the domain for searching for a crochet blanket for nanna, op shops have become a haven for those who like to live on trend, bargain hunters and also lovers of the environment.
I am always asked when I have shared my snatched gems: “but where do you go?”
Before I spill the secrets to the best op shops on the Sunshine Coast, here are some basic tips to a successful op shop.
Spend time searching.
Can’t be bothered flicking through the crammed racks?
Then it’s unlikely you will walk out with a vintage designer piece.
All of the times I have found winning pieces were in the bottom of markdown bins and on overcrowded shelves.
You have to be in it to win it. You never know what’s at the bottom of a pile.
Keep going back.
Chances are you won’t find a Gucci bag on your first visit but you might once you learn which thrift shops hold the best bags and regularly visit. The major gems are found when unexpected. So go in with an open mind.
Lots of donations are dropped off over the weekend after mum has dragged the kids in for a weekend spring clean. This is also a busy time for second-hand shops leaving these donations to be sorted in the new week. Mid-week is usually when all the fresh stock is on the floor.
Look out for further price slashes.
Before diving in and searching for your new pieces, keep updated with further discounts as most op shops have coloured ticket sales and half-price days to reduce donation numbers.
Now, are you ready for my go-to thrift shops?
