Preston Hackspace

This popular hackspace has secured a meeting room at UCLAN, Preston and has support from Ultimaker for its 3D printer. Jayd Lawrence and Ben Horn are determined to create a welcoming and creative space in Preston. At each session there are a plethora of hacks on offer: from Arduino and Raspberry Pi-based hacks to drone projects. http://prestonhac­kspace.org.uk Scale14x The 14th Southern California Linux Expo takes place on 21-24 January 2016 at the Pasadena Convention Centre. Four days of Linux and open source tutorials, workshops and exhibitors all showcasing the latest products and projects in the community. Sponsored by big names such as HP and O’Reilly, this is the first major FOSS event of 2016 and historical­ly draws a big crowd. More info is on the website. www.socallinux­expo.org UK Healthcamp On November 28, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine will play host to an unconferen­ce with a bit of a difference, focusing on bringing together NHS healthcare profession­als and policy makers with developers and designers to create projects that will benefit the lives of many.

This isn’t the first event of its type but there is a growing interest in events such as this, because they fulfil a need to use data effectivel­y for social good.
