Les Pounder gets excited about a Makefest in Manchester.

Anew event entered into the already crowded Maker calendar in 2015. Makefest is a one-day event that offers something for everyone. From art, electronics, prop making, make-up and visual effects, there’s a plethora of interesting topics to keep everyone entertained. Taking place on June 24 in the city of Liverpool’s Central Library, this event will once again welcome over 3,000 people through its doors. Spanning the entire library, which is a beautiful modern building offering great facilities.

Over the course of the day there will be over 100 stalls across the venue, showing off the latest projects using equipment such as the Raspberry Pi, Arduino, micro:bit and Codebug. You can get hands on with these projects and meet the makers behind them. If you need a little retail therapy, there will be stalls offering kits and projects to suit every pocket.

If you want to get your hands dirty then there will be workshops and lessons throughout the day including sessions on 3D printing, learning to code, photography.

We’ve been to the past two Makefest events and been truly blown away at how family friendly the event is. We loved seeing the children hacking their own vehicles with Lego and a few motors, then watching families paint using conductive paints to draw circuits on a piece of paper which are then connected to a Raspberry Pi and LEDs to produce custom circuits.

But why should you go to this event? Quite simply, it’s a free day out that will inform and entertain the whole family. Take a picnic and prepare to enter a world full of technological wonder! https://lpoolmakefest.org
