Make events inclusive
Linux Foundation events are often the only time that those who contribute to Linux and other critical open source projects meet in person. And a core objective has been promoting diversity and inclusiveness in open source. More diverse teams make smarter decisions, generate better business results, and create more productive open source projects. There’s always more that can be done, but some initiatives we have implemented, and encourage others to as well, include:
Adopting and enforcing a clear Code of Conduct across events.
Awarding scholarships to allow members of underrepresented groups to attend events for free.
Free child care and nursing rooms for working parents.
Offering training on how to be an inclusive speaker.
Prohibiting all-male panels or keynote line-ups.
Ensuring venues are wheelchair accessible and providing details on medical equipment rental, as well as interpreters for the hearing impaired upon request.
We’re always looking for ways to continuously improve the event experience, but are proud of these advances. Diverse and inclusive communities are healthier and more productive, enabling them to take on the toughest technical challenges.
