Help & support

Even simple tools require some documentation.

For a long time, password managers were available exclusively as desktop tools. It’s only in recent years that browser-based alternatives have come to the fore. This probably explains why bitwarden, the only browser-based tool on our selection, has the most detailed documentation. Its website hosts a large number of articles: everything from getting started and creating and managing entries to the security measures available to safekeep your data are discussed in detail. The project’s blog is also an excellent resource to learn about new features.

Encryptr also provides a getting started manual. It serves as a quick introduction to the tool and how to use it to create entries.

KeePassXC hosts a very thorough FAQ covering various topics and introducing key features such as adding words to the passphrase generator. There’s also a wiki hosted on GitHub with limited but useful information, such as configuring Auto-type. You can launch the online help from within LazLock itself by clicking Help > Online Help. With the aid of screenshots, it walks you through the interface and how to use the app. PasswordGorilla is the only tool on our list to feature built-in help. It describes settings, configuration, preferences and usage best policies. You will also find a FAQ and some other useful but barebones info on the project’s GitHub page.
