Despite the undeniable pleasure of exploring a game world in a 3D engine, 2D sideways scrollers still pack plenty of appeal – especially if you add fancy graphics and smooth motion, as can be found in CaveExpress. This is a classic 2D platformer with physicsbased gameplay and dozens of levels that will capture you for a solid period of time.
In CaveExpress you need to master your pedal-powered flying machine to pick up packages from your cave-dwelling clients and drop them off at the collection point. We forgot to say that the cave is not a peaceful place: beware mighty mastodons, terrifying pterodactyls and other creatures that would rather see you extinct.
Delivering packages with a prehistoric pedal machine is not easy and requires certain skills, otherwise you may crash after hitting a wall long before someone eats you.
At some point you should become quite adept at dropping packages to the collection spot, and this is the right time to discover various tricks and powerups placed around each level. For example, you can throw a stone onto a tree to get extra goodies, like a healing pack to regenerate your health. Also, avoid getting too close to sleeping dinosaurs, as their snore can be troublesome for you.
The game features very fluid controls (standard arrow keys and Space on a desktop PC) and has seven campaigns (level packs), with the first one being a tutorial. You can also make use of the multiplayer mode and play your friends together on a single map.
CaveExpress is a cross-platform game available for all major systems, including the mobile version for Android, and it appears to be very touch-friendly. We believe that all the extras do a good job and make the game much more captivating to play.
