Openmediavault 4.0.14

-

Did you get a new computer at Christmas? If so, what did you do with the old one?You may have given it to a friend or family member, donated it to charity, or it could be sitting on a cupboard gathering dust and hoping that you will find a use for it at some time. Well, that time may just have come. How about turning it into a file server with Openmediavault? Then you can keep all your useful files in one place and access them from various devices: computers, tablets, phones and so on.

There are two things to be borne in mind with Openmediavault. The first is that it’s not a live distro – it needs to be installed before you can use it. Copy the ISO image from the DVD to a CD-R or USB stick and then boot from that to install.

The second point is that Openmediavault is not built with dual booting in mind. A file server is normally always on, so there’s no point in installing another distro alongside it because it will take over the whole computer.
