W ith proper understanding and some creativity, you can use image editors to radically transform your images. For instance, you can use the blur effect that most image editors provide to add a bokeh effect to your images. But you can’t do that unless you know how to use the feature, or worse still, can’t locate it within the interface.

Apart from a FAQ, darktable also provides PDF user manual in several languages including English and Spanish. There are also screencast tutorials and a community driven wiki.

You can access the DigiKam Handbook online or download the PDF for offline reading. It provides information on everything from supported formats, to using the tool efficiently. The primary reason why LightZone insists on users registering their details on the website before being permitted to download the program is to build an active user community that actively participates on the forum boards. While the forced registration process may upset some people, the forums are fairly active and a good resource for information on editing raw images, and plenty more besides. You can also click Help>LightZone to access the Online Help.

In addition to a quick manual to using Photivo, the project also provides videocasts and a handful of English language tutorials, but these are fairly basic and even incomplete, and are unlikely to prove helpful for absolute novices.
