What’s behind the free software sofa?
openssh 8.0
The latest version of OPENSSH should be ready to be released by the time you read this, with Damien Miller taking to Twitter to announce its imminent arrival. The new version brings better security when copying filenames with scp (though it’s still recommended that you don’t use the scp protocol), as well as experimental quantum-computing-resistant key exchange for more futureproof encryption. Find out more at http://bit.ly/lxfopenssh8.
nixos 19.03
NIXOS is an independent distro that uses the Nix package manager to install snapshots of packages and manage software via a configuration file. The latest version includes refactoring of the Kubernetes module to help enhance security. According to the release notes (http://bit.ly/lxfnixos), “Two-way TLS and RBAC has been enabled by default for all components,” and a Uefi-enabled image for Aarch64 hardware has been added as well.
av linux 2019.4.10
Released eight-days early, AV Linux 2019.4.10 is now available to download. This Debian-based distro specialises in audio and video production software, and the new release adds a number of bug fixes – and is also noticeable for being the last version that will run on 32-bit hardware. Future versions will be based on Debian ‘Buster’, and you can find out more at: http://bit.ly/lxfavlinux.
sabayon 19.03
The latest snapshot of this Gentoo-based distro uses Calamares as the system installer – rather than
Anaconda – and uses Python 3 by default. The kernel is 4.20, it now supports 32-bit UEFI and there are also improvements for AMD graphics cards. For more information and to download the latest version, visit the release announcement at: www.sabayon.org/download.
