ADD photos to your Family history

Add media to individuals 1

Switch to People view and double-click a person to open their personal details window. Switch to the Gallery tab and click + to browse for and select a photo from your library. If you keep your photos organised in a single folder, we recommend ticking ‘Convert to a relative path’ before clicking OK to import the photo.

Crop in 2

The Media Reference Editor will open. One of Gramps’ strengths is that it enables you to highlight part of the image – typically a headshot, which is then linked to the individual. Simply click and drag around the head. To resize the selection, place your mouse near an edge or corner, then click and drag the red square.

Add details 3

Expand the ‘Shared Information’ section to edit the photo’s title and provide a date for when it was taken. Use the Notes tab to record more details – multiple notes can be attached, such as a story about the photo itself, notes identifying people in a group photo or recording information written on the back of the photo. Click OK.

Attach to other elements 4

Media can also be attached to other parts of Gramps, including families, individual events and places – again, look for the Gallery tab to do so. You can also link a single photo to more than one element, plus highlight different parts of it individually. To do this, click the ‘Share’ button instead of the + button to select an existing image to link to.
