technically, the most outstanding feature of this retro-style space shooter is the fact that it isn’t based on any game engine. Instead, Evade and Destroy was made using pure Javascript, and this makes this game extremely fast and fluid even on low-end configurations.

The game itself is very fun to play, although it requires some skill to get used to its controls. Evade and Destroy is a vertically scrolling shooter with oldschool (and pixel-perfect) graphics coupled with modern, silky smooth dynamics. The plot is almost the same as the one in Astromenace, and even though these two games are from different categories, they deliver a comparable thrill.

You need to control your spacecraft and move it sideways in order to avoid collisions with obstacles and also try not to get hit by enemies. The original feature of

Evade and Destroy is that enemies don’t come gradually in waves, but rather do blasting attacks and then retract. As you advance into the depth of the alien base, fixed turrets emerge and try to shoot you down, so that surviving gets more challenging.

The game controls are a bit unusual: forget about the keyboard, use your mouse for moving left and right and hover the big grey button at the lower part of the screen in order to shoot on repeat fire. Evade

and Destroy is very mobile-friendly. Indeed, controlling the spacecraft with a finger is even more efficient than using the mouse within a desktop browser. You can make Evade and Destroy run offline by turning it into a Progressive Web App (PWA).

?? ?? It’s so retro and so mobile-friendly at the same time.
