Good news for all platform game lovers! We’ve got Super Bombinhas, a new, colourful 2D sidescroller. The plot, graphics, enemies and power-ups in this game are completely original and – truth be told – genuinely fun.
The story shown at the beginning of Super Bombinhas explains why your protagonist is a… bomb! Yes, you play for an intelligent bomb-like hero who travels across the fictional kingdom in order to find and defeat the evil usurper Gaxlon and therefore save the imprisoned legal king Axlon. If you have played newer Mario games, you’ll be familiar with some of the controls. For example, the item management system where you use the X key to use the current item, and press Z or V to choose another (if it’s available).
You improve your score by collecting fire rocks (like coins) while advancing through levels full of various enemies, robots, moving platforms, doors, tunnels and so on. There are also extra weapons, shields, life stars and other fancy items that you would expect to find in such a game.
We’ll admit that on first look we underestimated the game due to the childish background artwork. However, you get to play as many as eight worlds, each full of levels, plus a bonus game for those who feel brave enough to max their score. You also get to enjoy a bomb change capability, which enables you to play for another character (if you have more than one bomb in your inventory). Of course, getting extra characters requires a player to advance a bit further than exploring the very first islands.
For those who feel bored with Supertux, Super Bombinhas offers a great alternative. Give it a whirl!
