Extra applications
Some office suites aim to cover more bases with their toolset.
Beyond the core office tools, what further applications does each suite offer? There isn’t anything to say about WPS Office or FreeOffice in this section because they don’t offer any modules beyond the three main editors.
All of the modules in the Calligra suite have the feel of separate applications. So, it’s worth considering that many KDE applications such as KMail and KOrganiser could be used alongside Calligra while offering some integration and consistency. Of the official components, Karbon is a vector drawing application, covering similar ground to an application such as Inkscape. The blandly named Plan is a project planning application. The website also makes reference to former components such as mindmapper Braindump, flow chart creator Flow and eBook publishing that are no longer maintained, making them a bit of a gamble for adoption into your workflow. Former component Krita is an extremely comprehensive painting and image manipulation program and is now considered a project of its own.
Beyond the core business applications, LibreOffice offers
Draw, a substantial vector drawing application. It also has a mathematical formula editor. It’s worth noting that it comes with some extra editing modes such as a label designer and HTML editor, but these are, technically, modes of the word processor.
OnlyOffice offers a interesting groupware solution called Groups. This is free and open source and designed to be hosted online, and you can run it on your own server if you know how to set something like that up. The tool offers document sharing and management, email, project planning and a calendar application, and it includes a web-served implementation of the OnlyOffice suite itself.
