Apple has now revealed its brand new Game Porting Toolkit at WWDC. The toolkit itself is designed to allow Windows developers a way to check if their game will run well in Mac OS. Many conferencegoers were surprised to find that the toolkit is based on CrossOver’s code.

CrossOver itself is based on Wine, the popular open source Windows compatibility layer. Responding on its blog, developer Codeweavers confirmed that it didn’t engineer this with Apple but would be delighted to work with any game developers who try out the Game Porting Toolkit.

?? ?? Apple’s announcement that its porting toolkit is based on Wine may well lead to greater adoption for game testing.
