ONE BALMY DAY IN THE BALEARICS

My travel highlight… was a day spent on the island of Formentera, which definitely lived up to its paradisal reputation. I’d been shooting in Ibiza where, unfortunately, I’d had endless rain and wind – less than idyllic conditions for beach shots. A few days into the trip, we sailed south to the tiny isle of Formentera. The sky was blue and cloudless, and two local guides took us by boat to explore cr ystal-blue waters and empty white -sand beaches – pure bliss (formenteranatural.com). Playa de Ses Illetes was particularly spectacular: a wide sandbank with the most intensely turquoise water I’ve ever seen in Europe. You can only get there by boat, so we had the whole thing to ourselves. My low moment… was a Google Maps fail on Ibiza. We followed directions down a road that became narrower and narrower, until the car wouldn’t fit any further and it became obvious this was actually a footpath! We had to do some dodgy reversing to get out. In 2019 I am most excited about… going to Laos. I want to explore the city streets of Luang Prabang, go trekking in the Annamite Mountains and experience life on the countr y’s southern islands.
