Lonely Planet (UK) - - Contents -

New York local Mikki Brammer introduces us to Boerum Hill: a friendly and historic Brooklyn neighbourhood filled with top - notch restaurants, modern art and bars you won’t want to leave @ mikkibrammer

COCKTAIL HOUR For stellar cocktails, head straight to Elsa. The interiors are light and fresh, combining Art Deco styling with neon signs, cur ved burgundy booths, marble tables and chandeliers above the bar. Try a Death of a Ladies’ Man, made with r ye, maple, lemon, scotch and tobacco bitters. elsabarnyc.com PARIS IN JUNE June is a natural wine bar with a moody, Parisian feel. It has booths, low tables and a marble -topped bar; and a long list of biodynamic wines, with staff favourites flagged daily. If I come to eat, I pick the mushroom tempura, and walnut olive oil cake. I love that they use seasonal produce, straight from organic farms. junebk.com SUNSET BOULEVARD If you want a great view at dusk, head to Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park and stroll along Brooklyn Heights promenade. The gorgeous view of Manhattan as the sun goes down is one of the best. HOT PLATES My favourite restaurant is a Thai place called Ugly Baby. It’s usually difficult to find good Thai food outside of Queens, so this place is really something. The staff will warn you about the spiciness, and they’re right – the food is ver y hot! My highlights are the stingray curr y, fried turmeric sea bream, and mushroom pineapple curr y. It’s a really simple space, but the food is unbelievably good. uglybabynyc.com
