MAKING THE LARGE BLOCKS

6

Sew a 4 in x 6 in Fabric B strip to the top of a 6 in square, and press open. Then add a matching 4 in x 10 in Fabric B to the right of the block (Fig 1).

7

Continue adding the Fabric C and D strips in order to the top and right of the block as shown to complete one large block (Fig 2).

8

Repeat steps 6–7 to make seven (7) large blocks.

9

Repeat steps 6–7, but add the strips to the top and left of the 6 in squares. Make seven (7) large reverse blocks (Fig 3).

MAKING THE SMALL BLOCKS

10

Repeat step 6 using a 3 in square,

2 in x 3 in Fabric B strip and 2 in x

5 in Fabric B strip. Then repeat step 7, continuing with the corresponding strips, to make one small block. Now make four (4) small blocks.

11

Repeat step 10, but add the strips to the top and left of the 3 in square, to make four (4) reverse small blocks.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP

12

Join four of the small blocks in a four-patch. Repeat to make a second four-patch block.

13

Arrange the blocks, referring to the photo, or in your own arrangement. Sew the blocks together in rows, then sew the rows together to complete the quilt top.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

14

Cut your backing fabric in half along the width. Rejoin the two pieces using a in seam and press open.

15

Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the layers together using your preferred method.

16

Quilt as desired. Raylee of Sunflower Quilting (www.sunflowerstitcheries.com) used baptist fan free-motion quilting.

17

Trim the excess batting and backing and square up the quilt. 18

Press the seams open and trim away the dog ears. Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Fold in half lengthwise, WST, and then press.

19

Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, folding a mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place to finish.
