CONSTRUCTING THE BASKET

1 Fuse the batting to the wrong side of the lining fabric, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

2 Take the exterior fabric 10½in x 15in piece and fold in half, RST, so the

10½in edges align. Sew down the two sides with a ¼in seam allowance.

3

Carefully align one side seam with the centre fold at the bottom. Measure and mark a 4in long line, perpendicular to the seam (Fig A). Sew along the line and trim the excess fabric, leaving a ¼in seam allowance (Fig B). Repeat for the other bottom corner.

4 Repeat steps 2–3 to construct the batting-fused lining piece.

3 Turn the exterior piece right side out and insert the lining inside, WST (Fig C). Align the side seams and top raw edges and baste together.

4 Pin or clip the binding around the edges and hand stitch around the top of the basket to finish (Fig D).
