FABRICS USED

Print fabrics are from the Blueberry Park 3 collection by Karen Lewis Textiles for Robert Kaufman.

White fabric is a Kona Cotton Solid, also by Robert Kaufman.

CUTTING OUT

1 From the print fabric cut:

One (1) 3in square.

One (1) 4½in square.

2 From the white fabric cut the following, as shown (Fig 1):

One (1) 3in square.

One (1) 4½in square.

Three (3) 2½in squares.

PIECING THE BLOCK

3 Place the white and print 4½in squares RST and sew around all four sides with a ¼in seam allowance. Cut from corner to corner on both diagonals to yield four HSTs. Trim each to 2½in square.

4 Draw a diagonal line on the back of the white 3in square. Place the print 3in square on top, RST, and sew ¼in either side of the marked line. Cut along the line to yield two HSTs. Trim each to 2½in square.

5 Lay out your HST units and white 2½in squares in three rows of three, referring to Fig 2 for placement and HST positioning. Sew the units into rows, then sew the rows together as you would a nine-patch, to complete the Flutterby block.

6 For the finished quilt make a total of seven Flutterby blocks. Make three with dark blue fabric, two with green fabric, one with light blue fabric and one with pink fabric.
