PIECING THE QUILT TOP

10

Take one low volume petal piece and one red background piece. Fold both in half to mark the centre point and pin together at the crease marks, RST (Fig A).

11

Carefully curve the background piece around the edge of the petal, and continue pinning in place until you reach the edges (Fig B).

12

Using a scant ¼in seam, slowly stitch along the edge, turning as you go and ensuring that both fabrics are flat. Remove the pins and press open (Fig C). Repeat steps 10–12 to attach the background to the other side of the petal.

13

Make three more petal blocks in the same way – one with a low volume petal and red background, and two more with the reverse. Join together in pairs using a scant ¼in seam, referring to Fig D for positioning. Join the pairs together to make a 12½in block (Fig E).
