CUT YOUR MOST COVETED PRINTS INTO SIMPLE STRIPS TO BUILD THIS CLEVER QUILT DESIGN

PIECING THE BLOCKS

3 Group the 2 in x 21in print strips into three sets of ten and sew together along the length (Fig 1). Press seams.

4 Using the Wedge template, cut the strip sets along the diagonal edges. Rotate the template and continue cutting the triangular blocks until you have a total of eleven wedges (Fig 2).

5 Sew a background 1 in x 22in strip to the right side of one wedge (Fig 3). Press the seam towards the background strip and trim in line with the top and bottom edge of the wedge. Continue adding alternating wedge and sashing blocks until you have a row of eleven wedges (Fig 4). Take care to line up the seams of the strip sets.

6 Square up the row, trimming the excess wedges at the side to measure 50in x 20 in (Fig 5).

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP

7 Join the background 25 in x 50in rectangle to the top and then the 15 1/2 in x 50in rectangle to the bottom of the wedge row.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

8 Cut the backing fabric in half across the width. Remove the selvedges and sew the two pieces together using a in seam. Press the seam open.

9 Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the layers together using your preferred method.

10 Quilt as desired. Jo quilted straight lines alternating between in and 1 in apart. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.

11 Sew the 2 in x 8 in binding strips end-to-end using diagonal seams. Add a 2 in x 12 in strip to either end in the same way. Press the seams open. Fold in half lengthways, wrong sides together, and press.

12 Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, creating a neat mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place around the edge to finish.
