CUTTING OUT

■ Four (4) pieces using Template 2.

2 From the white fabric cut:

■ Eight (8) pieces using Template 1.

MAKING THE BLOCK

3 Take one Template 1 piece and one Template 2 piece and crease the centre of each. Place Template 1 on top of Template 2, carefully matching the creases and ends, and pin in place. Ease along the curve and pin together between these points.

4 Sew the pieces together along the curved edge. Work slowly to avoid stretching, removing each of the pins as you go. Press towards the white fabric. Trim the edges (Fig A).

5 Repeat steps 3–4 to sew a second Template 1 piece to the other side. Align the diagonal line of your ruler centrally through the Template 2 piece and trim ¼in away from the point on both sides to make one 3½in square unit (Fig B). Repeat to make a total of four units.

6 Arrange the units as a four-patch, referring to the photography for placement. Sew together in rows, then sew the rows together.

7 For the finished quilt, make a total of two dark blue, one green, two light blue and two pink blocks.
