PIECING THE MINI QUILT TOP

5

Foundation Paper Piece eight Template B units, as in the instructions for border three of the quilt. Use one Fabric B 4½in x 8½in rectangle to cover the two centre sections, ignoring the red line on the template, and two Fabric A 3½in x 7½in rectangles for the sides.

6

Make eight more Template B units, using a Fabric C 4½in x 8½in rectangle in the centre, and two Fabric B 3½in x 7½in rectangles at the sides.

7

Sew the units into four four-patch blocks, and then sew the blocks together to complete the mini quilt.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

8

Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the layers together using your preferred method.

9

Quilt as desired. Lucy echoed the shapes in the mini quilt, using Aurifil

12wt thread in colour #5002. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.

10

Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Fold in half lengthways, wrong sides together, and press. Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, creating a neat mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place to finish.
