MAKING THE TRIANGLES

7

Take the Fabric A 4¼in x 32in strip and the Fabric B 2¾in x 32in strip and sew together along the long edges. Press the seam open.

8

Using the Triangle template on p64, cut eight triangles from the strip, rotating the template between cuts as shown in Fig 1. You will have four triangles with Fabric A at the top, and four triangles with Fabric B at the top.

9

Repeat steps 7– 8 with the Fabric C and D strips to make eight triangles.

MAKING THE CUSHION TOPS

10

Take the four triangles with Fabric B at the top and the four triangles with Fabric D at the top. Arrange with the triangles pointing inward, and alternating

the triangles. Sew the triangles together in pairs, sew the pairs into two block halves, then sew the halves together (Fig 2).

11

Take the two Fabric A 4 in squares and cut each in half on the diagonal. Sew one triangle to each Fabric C section of the block (Fig 3). Trim to 12 in square.

12

Join a Fabric B 1 in x 12 in strip to the top and bottom, then join a 1 in x 14 in strip to either side. Join the Fabric E 3 in x 14 in strips to the top and bottom, then join the 3 in x 20 in strips to either side to complete one cushion top. 13

Repeat steps 10–11 with the remaining triangles and Fabric D squares, referring to Fig 4. Then add Fabric A and E border strips as in step 14 to complete the second cushion top.

FINISHING THE CUSHIONS

14

Place each cushion top right side up on a piece of batting and baste in place. Quilt as desired. Debbie quilted organic wavy lines across each cushion top. Square up the cushion tops to 20in square, cutting away excess batting.

15

Baste and quilt each of the Fabric A and Fabric D 22in squares for the backing squares. Square up the backing pieces to the same size as the cushion tops.

16

Place one cushion top RST with one backing piece. Sew around the outer edge, leaving a turning gap in the centre bottom edge. Backstitch at each end. Clip the corners and turn right side out. Fill with stuffing or a cushion insert and stitch the turning gap closed to finish. Repeat this process to finish the second cushion.
