Join an I CST to the bottom right corner of E. Then join F to the right side to make the leaf unit (Fig 3).

Join a G CST to all four corners of H (Fig 4). Join the leaf unit to the top, then join D to the bottom to form the orange (Fig 5). Join the side units to either of the orange, rotating as shown (Fig 6). Repeat to make a total of four orange blocks.
COMPLETING THE CUSHION TOP

Arrange the four blocks as shown in Fig 7. Sew the blocks together in pairs, then sew the pairs together.

Join the pink 1 in x 12 in strips to either side, then join the pink
1 in x 14 in strips to the top and bottom. Then join the white 1 in strips, adding the shorter strips to the sides and then the longer strips to the top and bottom. Repeat with the green strips to complete the cushion top.

Layer the lining, batting and cushion top. Baste and quilt as desired.
Trim away excess batting and lining fabric and square up the cushion top.
FINISHING THE CUSHION

Press under in twice along one long edge of a backing rectangle, enclosing the raw edge. Topstitch in place. Repeat with the remaining backing rectangle.

With the cushion top right side down, place the backing rectangles on top, both right side up. Align the raw edges with the outer edge of the cushion top. The hemmed edges will overlap in the centre. Pin or clip around the outer edge. Baste around the outer edge.

Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press seams open and trim away the dog ears. Fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press.

Sew the binding to the right side of the cushion, folding a mitre at each corner, then fold the binding to the back of the cushion and stitch in place to finish.
