How did you first get into quilting?

I took a class on how to make a zippered pillowcase at a local sewing shop about four years ago. After making a few garments, I decided to try making a quilt because it seemed a lot more carefree and forgiving – and in my case, that turned out to be true! A couple of years later, I began designing my own quilt patterns. It’s a treat to be able to process my thoughts and feelings by getting them onto paper and then transforming them into a brand new quilt pattern.

What’s your all-time favourite quilt pattern?

Of mine? I’d say Metropolis [second image from top]. The design was a lightbulb moment for me. I remember enjoying doing all the math for each size option, which I guess goes to show how excited I was about it! Of others? Probably Modern Fans by Suzy Quilts. I love sewing curves and the design is so versatile that I actually made two.

Have you ever met a quilt block you don’t like?

I prefer blocks that are quickto-make but I like all kinds: from simple to challenging and everything in between.

What’s your favourite thing about quilting?

I love designing and writing patterns, pulling fabric, and piecing the top. The start of a new project is always exciting. But hands down, my favourite thing about quilting is how much it embraces imperfection. I’m a chronic worrier myself, so quilting is where I can allow myself to really let go, experiment a little, and shrug off my mistakes.

What is the most recent thing you’ve been working on?

I started making sewing tutorials on YouTube this year and it’s been a blast making them. My aim has been to make clear, quick and comprehensive videos. I have a background in film editing so it feels extra special to combine the thing I loved doing then with the thing I love doing now.

What can we expect from you in the future?

New quilt patterns, more video tutorials and more fun sewalongs are in the works! After scheduling pattern releases in advance this year, I learned that a go-with-theflow approach is more of my jam when it comes to quilting so there aren’t any specific dates on those.
