CUTTING OUT

1 From Fabric B cut:

■ Two (2) 1½in x 7½in (M).

■ Two (2) 1½in x 4½in (H).

2 From Fabric F cut:

■ Two (2) 4½in squares (K).

■ Four (4) 2½in squares (J).

3 From Fabric G cut:

■ Two (2) 2½in x 3in (A).

■ One (1) 2½in x 4½in (E).

■ Two (2) 1½in x 4½in (I).

■ One (1) 1½in x 7½in (N).

■ Two (2) 1½in squares (P).

4 From the background fabric cut:

■ Four (4) 2½in squares (B).

■ One (1) 2½in x 1½in (C).

■ Two (2) 2½in x 3½in (D).

■ Two (2) 1½in squares (F).

■ Two (2) 2½in x 4½in (G).

■ Six (6) 2in squares (L).

■ Two (2) 1½in x 4in (O).

5 From the border fabric cut:

■ Two (2) 2¼in x 17½in.

■ Two (2) 2¼in x 21in.

MAKING THE CUSHION FRONT

6 Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all the B, F, J, L, and P squares. Follow steps 9–17 of the quilt instructions in order to complete one Bee Block.

7 Take the two R squares and cut them in half diagonally. Fold each triangle in half and finger press in order to mark the centre of the diagonal edge. Fold the Bee Block in half and finger press. Open it out and fold in half in the other direction and finger press once more. This will mark the centres on all four edges.

8 Take one triangle and place RST with the bee block, matching the centre crease of the triangle to one edge of the block and pin (Fig A). Sew in place, then press the seam towards the triangle. Repeat to add the remaining triangles to all four sides, working one side at a time.

9 Trim the block to 17½in square, carefully centring the block and making sure to leave a ¼in seam allowance outside the points of the bee block (Fig B).

10 Sew the shorter border fabric strips to either side of the trimmed block. Then sew the longer strips to the top and bottom. Press each of the long seams towards the borders.
