From the contrast fabric cut: 4

■ One (1) 11/2in x WOF.

■ One (1) 31/2in x 6in.

PREPARING THE EPP PIECES

Pin or glue a paper Hexagon template 5

to the wrong side of one of your print fabrics. Cut all the way around the template, leaving a 1/4in seam allowance around the outer edge. Glue baste the hexagon in place, working one side at a time around the hexagon.

Repeat step 5 to baste all twenty

6

one of the paper Hexagon templates. You will need five hexagons each from three prints and six hexagons from the fourth print, twenty one in all.

PIECING THE STOCKING FRONT

Arrange the prepared hexagons,

7

referring to Fig 1. Take the first two hexagons to be joined, and place right sides together, aligning the edge to be joined. Starting at one corner, whipstitch along the edge.

When you reach the other corner, knot 8

your thread but don’t cut it. Open out the pieces, then align the next hexagon to be joined. Sew together as before.

Continue adding hexagons, until the 9

entire panel is joined. You may wish to join the hexagons in small sections, then join these sections together.

Press the completed panel. Remove 10

all the papers from the back of the panel, gently peeling away the seam allowance around each shape. Press the seam allowances out along the edges of the panel.

Baste the panel right side up on 11

top of one batting piece. Quilt as desired. Sarah hand quilted a diamond lattice across the panel. Use the stocking template to cut one piece from the quilted panel.

ADDING THE POCKET

Place the two pocket pieces RST. 12

Sew around the outer edge, leaving the top edge open. Trim the seam allowance and notch the curves. Turn the pocket right side out and press.

Take the contrast fabric 31/2in x 6in 13

piece, and press the short edges under by 1/4in. Then press each of the long edges under by 1/4in. Press in half, bringing the long edges together.
