Your iPad can read your books

Let your iPad read books out loud with the Natural Reader app

Text to speech

Sentences turn blue in Natural Reader 1 as they‘re being read aloud by the app. When one sentence ends, the next is automatically read out, and this continues throughout the book. If there’s only a particular section you want to hear, or be read from, you can tap on any sentence in the book to switch over.

Play/pause

Tap the Play button in the bottom-left

2 corner to start hearing the text. Natural Reader needs to be online to read text, and there is usually a slight delay before the iPad starts speaking. The app continues all the way through the book unless you press the Pause button, or tap on the Library icon in the top left.

Page select

If your digital ebook has pages at the

3 beginning that you don’t want to listen to, such as the contents, preface or introduction pages, you can easily skip them. Just use the Next and Previous buttons at the bottom to move on.

Skip back

If you missed or wanted to repeat a

4 part of the audio, that’s no problem. Just skip back to the previous sentence. Tap the button in the bottom bar, showing the arrow icon forming an anti-clockwise circle, and hop back.

Skip forward

You can skip forward 15% of the

5 current chapter by tapping this button. It’s handy if you want to quickly move past the current point in the text, but it’s not the most precise way to navigate through the book.

Language and voice

You can adjust the language and voice

6 used by the Natural Reader app in the Settings. The default reading speed is 1 but you can pick a speed from -4 (slower) to 10 (much faster). Changing the speed of the text does not alter the pitch of the voice.
