Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad Air

Need to type? Add a keyboard that doesn’t fatten up your Air too much

- £65 Manufacturer Logitech, logitech.com Requires iPad Air

So, you've bought a lovely thin, light iPad and you want a Bluetooth keyboard for it. Do you go for a fold-around case that makes it thicker and heavier, but keeps it protected? In the past, we've always preferred Logitech's Ultrathin Keyboard Covers, which are roughly the same size as the iPads they fit to, but provide an almost-full-sized keyboard that's excellent to use. It's the same with this new model for the iPad Air. Despite the smaller size, the Ultrathin hasn't lost any of its accuracy or quality. We could type just as well on a full-size Apple Bluetooth keyboard.

When not in use, the Ultrathin cover fits to your iPad by closing over it like a book cover, attaching its hinge magnetically to the Smart Cover magnets on the side. The magnets are strong, and it really is only as thick as the iPad itself, which is great, obviously. However, it doesn't use the magnets on the front of the iPad to hold itself closed, so it can flap open (though this isn't a constant problem).

It's also not the prettiest thing when closed, with plastic bits standing out. And, though this doesn't bother us that much, there is little in the way of protection from it – it blocks the screen nicely, but drop it on the corner and you could still do some damage compared to cases that wrap all the way around.

When in use, the iPad sits nicely in a groove just behind the keys, secured in by more magnets. There's only one angle for the screen, which is a bit of a shame, but generally, we didn't find it a problem – it leans far enough back that it should be usable even on a cramped train.

The Ultrathin is not cheap, and it's not the most protective, but it’s a genuinely superb keyboard, and a brilliantly mobile option. Matt Bolton

A truly excellent keyboard, which is accurate, comfortable and reliable to use, as well as thin and light. Recommended!
