Although there are some great racing games available on the Mac, it’s been a few years since we tore up rally tracks in the previous edition of Dirt, so we’re totally revved up by the arrival of the third instalment.

One of the Dirt series’ most appealing attributes is that its tracks span varied locations around the world. You’ll find yourself racing around the neon-lit streets of Tokyo, minutes later kicking up a dust trail across Kenyan plains, then struggling to keep your eyes – and your vehicle – on course while stealing glances at the jaw-dropping natural beauty of the Alps.

Mac gamers have had to wait several years for Dirt 3 but, as this edition’s title tells you, this release is packed with extra content that players on other platforms had to wait for. You get the entire range of vehicles available for the game, and an extra dozen tracks on top of those provided in the base game.

Even by the time you’ve learned every tight turn in a course, there’s further challenge in getting to grips with the many vehicles available in your garage. You also have to contend with different driving conditions, which include rain, snow and night-time races.

The game includes a split-screen multiplayer mode, and there’s enough content here to keep you hooked on trying to beat your times on every course and in every vehicle. We strongly recommend playing with a gamepad, though.
