Fear of being left behind
In last month’s Letter of the Month, Dave Phelan expressed my exact feelings with his accusation that MacFormat now concentrates on rich pro users, to the exclusion of the rest of us. I also have older kit; after all, Apple gear is well built and lasts a long time, so why exclude kit that is not exactly hot off the assembly line? OK, Luis does his thing with older kit and I enjoy reading that, but so much of the mag now is something that I leaf through rather than settle down to read. You may have to change your title to MacForPros!
Having said all that, it’s a nicely produced publication and you have, at last, stopped flirting with extremely lightweight fonts on strange-coloured backgrounds!

Alex sa ys… Thanks for following up on David’s concerns, Susan. We’re aware that many of our readers don’t spend a huge amount of money on new Apple hardware. We cover new Macs in the reviews section because a lot of readers want buying advice on those models, especially after Apple’s most recent price adjustments based on currency fluctuations and other factors, which took the entry level price of an iMac – equipped with a plain hard drive that’s really old hat in 2018 – above the £999 mark, and that kind of figure is a price barrier for many people.
However, I expect that it’s other content in the magazine that’s aggravating to yourself and Dave, so we’ll be in touch with you directly to discuss this further and learn where you think we can make tweaks to address the needs of people like yourself who are running older Apple hardware.
Meanwhile, we’ve extended the closing date for our survey to give all our readers, including irregulars, plenty of opportunity to have their say – see below.
