Angst with recording actions

-

QI sometimes use Automator to record the process of me completing complex dialogs that are repetitive. In Mojave, Automator now won’t let me record without using ‘accessibility features’. What has this got to do with accessibility? by Mike moroni

AThis is part of Mojave’s new privacy protection system, which here is preventing apps from recording your actions when they are controlling other apps or macOS itself. This capability is part of the suite of features intended to make the Mac more accessible to people with impaired movement or other needs, although in this case you’re using it for another purpose.

When you give your consent to Automator to record your actions, it is added to the Accessibility list in > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy, and you won’t be asked again by Automator so long as that permission remains in place.

If you save your workflow as an app and open that, you’ll be asked to give consent to it being added to the Accessibility list too, so it can replay the recorded actions. Once granted, the app should just get on with its job.
