Test 1 Scan quality

Scanning a colour swatch target

-

We scanned a Digital ColorChecker SG colour target using the GretagMacbeth Color Measurement tool and checked the accuracy of the different swatches in the resulting image files. Each image was opened in Adobe Photoshop and the different swatches sampled and their colour values compared. We weren’t expecting pre-press quality levels here, but we did want to see at least reasonably accurate colour capturing from each device.

The Epson, Canon and Kyocera devices did pretty well, sampling colours with minimal shifts in the RGB values. The Brother scan was a little too contrasty, pushing very dark grey into pure black. It also had the largest colour balance shifts of the group, although the shifts were still within a small range. All the printers did fairly well in this regard, but the Epson just edged in front of the Canon and Kyocera for tonal accuracy.
