CleanMyMac X is an easy-touse app that optimises your system. It covers five areas: Cleanup, Protection, Speed, Files and Applications. There are 14 individual modules, or you can click Smart Scan, which is focused on removing junk, neutralising potential threats or increasing your system’s performance; a second click runs all three tasks at once.
By default, CleanMyMac purges only common files that the system rebuilds as needed but, if you’re using macOS Mojave, you can grant full disk access to root out the junk from built-in apps like Mail, Safari and more. You can preview files before purging them, with granular options to preserve certain cache or log files.
A menu bar app displays key details on system drive storage space, available memory, processor load and network activity. This can be configured to perform tasks like correctly uninstalling apps, warning you when your Mac’s available memory is low, and force quitting unresponsive apps.
CleanMyMac X has proven to be a reliable ally in the war against system cruft or removing old 32-bit apps. Aside from the occasional inaccurate recommendation, the only downside is the price.
