Not too long ago, Mail al­lowed us to ç+x to get rid of mes­sages. That would send the email to obliv­ion, not our Trash folder. As we seem to re­ceive ever more un­wanted emails con­tain­ing du­bi­ous links to open, that op­tion would be more ap­pre­ci­ated than ever. I’d like it back to de­stroy those emails with swift key­strokes, not have bogus links hang­ing around wait­ing for a mis­take to hap­pen. by Tom Rogers

Alex says … You can use Edit > Delete or press ç+∫; that combo is less com­monly used in apps – ç+x is widely used – so Ap­ple may have done this as a safety pre­cau­tion.
