Manage your smart home

Replace Apple’s Home app with an arguably better HomeKit manager

- Alex Cox

When you’re managing your HomeKit accessories, it’s natural to head for Apple’s

own Home app. That’s logical, and it’ll get the job done, but it’s not necessarily the best choice. Home’s design pushes certain aspects of accessory control into the background – try tweaking the colour of your lights, for instance, and you’ll need to navigate through at least two screens before you’re given the option.

Even if you don’t own a single Eve accessory, the Eve for HomeKit app is one you owe it to yourself to try. It’s compatible with everything HomeKit, and in many cases it makes it much quicker and easier to get things done. You can see the exact status of all your accessories and access their basic controls from a single page; bring up the controls for your living room, for example, and you could alter your lights, your thermostat and more, with all the necessary controls shown in that one place.

Keeping track

The Eve app is also virtually unparalleled in terms of tracking. If you’re using HomeKitcompatible sensors, like smart plugs, airquality monitors or even motion sensors, you’ll be able to track their activity and even view long-term analytics of their readings.

You don’t even have to leave the app to add new accessories to your HomeKit setup – you may never use Apple’s Home app again.
